EARNING POINTS

Our point system is quite simple.  Points are earned at each race based on your Age Graded performance. There will be additional bonus points at each race if you are in the top five age graded performances in a race.

If you are not familiar with this concept, age grading is a way of putting all race participants on a level playing field, regardless of age or gender.

Age Graded Example:

Four different people run exactly a 20:00 minute 5k, they will each earn different points based on their age and gender the day of the race:

*50 Year Old Female runs a 20:00 = 82.6 points

*40 Year Old Female runs a 20:00 = 75.8 points

*12 Year Old Male runs a 20:00 = 72.2 points

*17 Year Old Male runs a 20:00 = 65.5 points

The formula for scoring has had some tweaks over the years, but it is based on millions of race results over time.  It is an analytical way of evaluating performance without human bias.

Scoring Each Race:

Your 5k time reported by each race will be converted to an Age Graded score.  That is the points you will earn plus any bonus points (see below).

Bonus Points:

If you are in the top five of age graded finishers at a race you will earn bonus points.

* 1st = 5 points

* 2nd = 4 points

* 3rd = 3 points

* 4th = 2 points

* 5th = 1 point

The reason we have the bonus points is to encourage people to participate in more series events.  A smaller race could give you an opportunity to finish in the top 5 of the age graded results earning you bonus points!  This also might encourage you to run a race that may have a more challenging course.

Minimum Events:

Runners must complete a minimum of five series events to be considered for awards.  Only your top five race scores will be used to calculate your points.  So if you run six races, your race with the lowest points will be excluded from you final score.  This also means if you score bonus points in a race that is not one of your top five event scores they will be ignored (which is very unlikely to occur).
